Hawaii Engineering Group’s key personnel led a $21M data center relocation for T-Mobile USA, managing a multi-disciplinary team from real estate procurement through facility design, network design, construction, and commissioning.
Client: T-Mobile USA
Service: Market Lead / General Manager – design through construction
Completed on: March 7, 2008
In this role, the project lead managed the end-to-end relocation and build-out of a major telecommunications data center, including real estate procurement, facility and network design, and construction. The team comprised architects, structural and electrical engineers, core data engineers, network specialists, facility managers, and logistics and construction managers. Over an 18-month schedule, the project established power and cooling requirements, configured AC/DC distribution, and located air-handling equipment to support a modern, redundant data hall. A parallel operations strategy was implemented, running a redundant data center for three months while migrating services, with disaster recovery considerations such as hurricanes, tsunamis, terrorism, power and fiber outages, and communication backups. The project finished ahead of schedule through early procurement of long-lead materials and rigorous critical-path management.
